Membership Value

For 50 years, the Michigan Public Transit Association has worked closely with Michigan's Executive & Legislative branches, the Michigan Department of Transportation, and local community leaders to strengthen public transportation services on behalf of Michigan's citizens. The MPTA’s more than 60 transit providers include both public transit agencies and specialized services providers utilizing bus, rail, van, and ferry services. The MPTA also includes dozens of associate members that serve the transit industry with key goods and services.

Our primary membership value is found in:

  • Advocacy – We lead efforts with the Governor and Legislature to ensure state support for public transit. We engage the Capitol’s leading transit lobbyist, work closely with coalition partners, facilitate regular legislative updates and strategy discussions, and build legislative relationships, including with our Political Action Committee.
  • Communications – We provide our members with valuable and timely information about transit developments of interest. We also work to amplify the voices of local transit providers and highlight their importance to our state through traditional and social media.
  • Training – We partner with MDOT to host a series of training programs providing tailored education for all transit providers in the state.
  • Troubleshooting & best practices – We host regular committee meetings to discuss issues of emerging interest and work closely with MDOT leadership to resolve practical challenges for transit providers. We also facilitate sharing of best practices between peer transit providers.
  • Networking – We help connect transit leaders to build friendships that sustain their work while encouraging professional development and growth.
  • Business development – We provide numerous opportunities – including new digital directory and job/RFP board - to showcase your brand, connect with transit leaders, and support local transit agencies in their work.

The MPTA invites you to partner with us in supporting our mission of advancing public transportation in our state.
